KOMPAN carries out continuous quality and safety audits of its control system, ensuring that safety policies and goals are constantly improved and adapted to society's demands.

KOMPAN and UN Global Compact

UN's convention on the rights of the child mentions, among other things, children's right to play as part of their fundamental rights and development. KOMPAN advocates for the same rights and one of our basic principles is that our products are instrumental in giving children this universal right to play.

From the very beginning, we in KOMPAN have contributed to making children’s living conditions better and we have worked for children's right to play for children to learn and develop. KOMPAN has chosen to base our CSR initiative on UN's Global Compact, and we are working on the implementation of the 10 principles. We joined the UN Global Compact in 2011.

Our corporate social responsibility forms a natural part of KOMPAN - both our business and our organisation. We believe that we can create a profitable business and take on a corporate social responsibility at the same time. Therefore, it is a priority for KOMPAN that our corporate responsibility is included in all parts of the company - from development, sales, purchasing, production, delivery, and to the investments we make.
It is important for KOMPAN to comply with Danish, US and international legislation and product standards within our business area, as well as to increase the values they are based upon. For instance, it is important to balance risk and challenge within product safety so that it is still fun, challenging, and educative to play.

Human Rights

For decades, the joy of children and adults has guided us in developing big ideas and new solutions for play or for sports. We have carefully studied children’s play and built a knowledge base that has made KOMPAN second to none in its field. From our studies, we know what motivates and develops people from infancy to adulthood at the different stages of physical development.
Our insight clearly confirms that physical activity develops you as an individual, your social skills, your ability to learn and keeps you healthy. However, today 1 out of 4 adults and 8 out of ten adolescents on a global scale are not physically active. As a result, the community’s health care costs are increasing.
Community leaders are worried and are looking for ways to fight inactivity. As more people live in cities with limited space and little time for physical activity, the cities have a big challenge.
At Kompan we believe that all people regardless of age and abilities should experience the joy of moving and they should be offered opportunities and access to free play and exercise.
We will support and respect internationally declared human rights within our spheres of influence, and we ensure that we are not accomplices to human rights abuses by:

Building competencies in relation to human rights issues in relevant parts of the organization.
Making use of country analyses when evaluating the human rights situation in the countries in which we have or plan to have production facilities.
Entering into a dialogue on human rights issues with the KOMPAN Group's stakeholders, including non-governmental organisations and suppliers.
We recognise the employees' rights to unionise and to take part in collective bargaining
In the countries in which the employees do not have the free choice of trade union for legislative reasons, or an established trade union system is not possible, the company will arrange for the employees to meet with the management in other ways to discuss work-related issues.
We strive to fight all kinds of forced labour by:
Ensuring that all employees have employment contracts or are subject to agreements that specify their terms of employment and terms of termination, showing the voluntary aspect of the employment.
We strive to fight child labour by:
Ensuring that children are only employed, if they are older than the age for completing compulsory school, older than 15 years, and if they are older than the local legal minimum age of work.
Besides that young people, between 15 and 18 years-old, must not deal with hazardous work, not work during the night and should have more breaks than employees over the age of 18.
This also applies to companies which supply goods to KOMPAN.
In special circumstances, employment of children at the age of 14 is possible, if this is allowed according to ILO convention No. 138, and if local conditions mean that having a job the child will have the best possible protection and development. However, the job should be a light and secure part-time employment and education should be provided at the same time. In case of employment, it should take place in close cooperation and dialogue with the child and his/her family as well as with approved international or national organisations that safeguard the interests of children.
We will abolish discrimination in the workplace by:

Ensuring that non-objective discriminatory treatment does not occur with regard to employment, careers, further education, dismissals etc.
Being reluctant in the use of health tests. Only the most necessary tests required by legislation or by the employees should be carried out. Health tests must not be used for discriminatory purposes.

We work against corruption, including extortion and bribery

Participating in corruption and bribery is not compatible with being employed at KOMPAN.
All employees at KOMPAN should be careful not be party to situations where cooperation partners participate in corruption or bribery. If there is a reason to suspect this is the case, the immediate manager should be told immediately.
